So it appears that the NFL landscape in California will soon be back to exactly where it was in 1960, if the Chargers can’t come to an agreement with San Diego: Los Angeles Rams, Los Angeles Chargers, Oakland Raiders.
The Raiders announced a few minutes ago that they would stay put on Oakland, withdrawing from the LA relocation voting that’s going on right now at the owners’ meeting in Houston. And now come reports that the Rams have been approved to move to LA, and the Chargers can join them if they choose. The teams would share the $1.1 billion Inglewood stadium that Rams’ owner Stan Kroenke has proposed to build.

Yep, Oakland is celebrating tonight, as Mark Davis has removed his team from consideration for a move to LA. The momentum may have shifted from Oakland during the voting process at the relocation meeting in Houston, or Davis may have just changed his mind. Whatever, it’s now down to the St. Louis Rams and San Diego Chargers as to which team (if any, or both) will move.

The NFL owners, trying to decide which teams will move to Los Angeles and where they’ll be playing, are meeting in Houston to (hopefully) decide the issue today. So far, this is what has been accomplished:
— A six-member NFL relocation committee has recommended that the league should accept the Carson stadium project — envisioned as a joint effort between the Raiders and Chargers in Carson, CA — over the Inglewood project. The latter is a proposed $1.1 billion stadium by St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke. That vote was 5-1.
— Next, the owners began voting on whether to accept the panel’s recommendation, or go another direction — in other words, which team or teams should move where. A 24-vote majority is needed for any decision, and after the first round of votes, no consensus could be reached. Reports are that the Inglewood project received more votes, however.
— The proposal involving the Rams playing alone in Inglewood has been removed from the ballot, according to several sources. It’s reportedly down to Chargers/Raiders sharing the stadium in Carson, or Chargers/Rams in Inglewood. Momentum may be gathering for the latter. But it’s unclear if Kroenke and Chargers owner Dean Spanos are willing to work together.
