While researching Fantasy Football strength of schedules for running backs might not make you completely rearrange your cheat sheet, it should help you break any ties you might have with similar running backs.
In other words, if you’re looking at similarly ranked running backs in your Fantasy Football rankings, and you see one has a very favorable Fantasy schedule against weak run defenses on average, and the other has a schedule that’s lining up to be tough, then the decision is easy!
By the time the NFL Preseason rolls around, we’ll have covered all these Fantasy Strength of Schedules:
This week, we take a closer look at a trio of running backs with very tough Fantasy Strength of Schedules for 2017. That means these Fantasy running backs will face some of the toughest rush defenses in the NFL over the course of their 16-game NFL season.
It’s also important to understand that we’re not going to point out the super running backs that you were already drafting really high. For instance, just because the Steelers have the 30th-ranked Fantasy Strength of Schedule for running backs, we’re not recommending you steer clear of Le’Veon Bell.
We’re also not going to point out running backs you were never thinking about starting, either. For instance, we’re only going to mention the starters or the running backs by committee, not the backups you weren’t drafting as starters anyway.
3 Tough 2017 Fantasy Strength of Schedules For Running Backs
We’ll be taking our Fantasy Strength of Schedules from the research done over at FFToolbox.com. I used the Fantasy SoS for Weeks 1-16, since that’s the normal length for Fantasy Football leagues.

Carlos Hyde, San Francisco 49ers
You already likely knocked the Ohio State product down a few pegs on your rankings because with Kyle Shanahan’s offense, Hyde’s running style doesn’t really fit well. Now, you see Hyde’s Niners will have the toughest Fantasy Strength of Schedule for all running backs from Weeks 1-16 in 2017. I’m probably not going to be able to convince you he’ll be fine at this point – mostly because I’m a little shaky on him now, too.
But as far as Shanahan’s offense goes, let’s give Hyde – the team’s best offensive weapon at this point – the benefit of the doubt.

Marshawn Lynch, Oakland Raiders
It’s a rough season to be a back by the Bay!
Both Oakland and San Francisco will be battling really tough run defenses this season. The Raiders face an AFC West schedule, with three games against the Broncos, Chargers and Chiefs defenses. But really, it’s the games against the out-of-division foes like the Cowboys, Giants, Patriots, Ravens and Titans that could really stuff Lynch and Co. All five of those defenses ranked as the five-toughest against the run in 2016.

Redskins Running Backs
While the Dolphins and Steelers both have tougher run-game schedules, the Redskins running backs are better for this list, considering they’re already low on the Fantasy totem pole. This news should shove them down further!
Whether you are a hopeful drafter of Rob Kelley as a sleeper or someone ready to gamble that rookie Samaje Perine will take the job outright, this schedule is bad for both of them. Although, it would make sense that a tough schedule will make it tougher for whoever wins the starting job out of camp (probably Kelley), which makes the other tailback the more likely long-term starter.
