Here’s a guy who began his NFL career 0-10, and was supposed to be nothing more than “That other Carr brother.” (David Carr was the first overall pick of the 2002 Draft for the Houston Texans). Derek Carr was the 36th overall pick (second round, Oakland Raiders, 2014).

And now he’s (reportedly) about to be the highest-paid QB in the NFL.

Nothing is finalized yet, but the two sides are working toward a deal that could be announced by Friday, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.

Carr may be a rare example of a player whose stock rose because of injury. He suffered a broken fibula in December, and the Raiders went on to lose to the Houston Texans 27-14 in the Wild Card Round with Connor Cook as starting QB. But the talk then was that a healthy Carr could have had the Raiders challenge he Patriots for the AFC title.

The Raiders and Chiefs tied for the AFC West lead at 12-4. Carr threw for 3,937 yards, 28 TDs and 6 interceptions.
